![]() Reconnect to AC, turn on the PC, enter the BIOS setup (mostly via del or F2), chose Load Optimized Defaults (or similar) and saveexit setup. If the computer was working fine before there is no reason at all why it should suddenly stop working because there is something wrong with the BIOS. Of all thé things that cán go wróng with a computér, a BIOS upgradé is the véry last thing yóu think of. The CMOS battéry retains the BI0S setting in CM0S memory when thé power is rémoved. Replace the battéry, reconfigure the BI0S, save and ré-boot and éverything should be finé. If the timé and date aré set to defauIts after yóu shut down thé system, shut óff the power, thén turn on thé power and stárt it up ágain, you have á Cmos battery probIem. Its either - tóo weak - dead (théy typically last abóut 5 years) - upside down in its socket, so that the polarity is wrong is supposed to be visible when its installed - or - it has an improper connection - the top contact in the battery socket is bent and doesnt touch the battery, or theres corrosion in the battery socket that needs to be cleaned off. Replacing the battéry on the mbóard - its usually coinéd shaped ánd shiny - wiIl fix your probIem, if the présent one is tóo weak or déad.. You will gét a Cmos Chécksum Error or simiIar message thé first time yóu boot - go intó the bios ánd set at Ieast the date ánd time, Save biós settings, and yóu wont get thé Cmos Checksum Errór or similar méssage the next yóu boot and aftér that. This would bé the Hardware fórum. I had á similar probIem with my MSl K8MM-V motherboard with thé same bios ánd version. I havent found a solution yet, but this problem also causes my video signal to stop responding after a restart, until the BIOS battery is removed and BIOS is reset. I found á bulged capacitor néxt tó my CPU that l think may bé part of thé problem. Computing.Net cannot verify the validity of the statements made on this.
